How to DIY Paint Your SUV Car in Pakistan

Paint jobs take time, they cannot be rushed or accidents can happen. Does art inspire you? And you want to showcase a painted art projecting your mood on your car? Then there’s no need to rush to get a proper paint job. You can DIY paint your SUV car in Pakistan.

With the lockdown again in place in different areas of Pakistan, shops are being closed and so are auto paint shops. But life carries on. You can paint your car however you want at home, just follow the steps below. 

  • Prepare your SUV Car  

Find the right spot where you won’t have the fear of getting paint on the walls or anywhere else. Make sure you have enough space to move around freely. Use old newspapers to place on the floor and walls around the area. 

Clean the surface of the car with a damp rag, to make sure no dust remains on its surface. 

  • Sand your SUV for smooth results

The first step after getting everything prepared is sanding the vehicle. Sanding is important so that the paint has a smooth and right surface to apply on. It is up to you if you want to sand till the original primer or take it to bare metal. 

If you just want to brighten the car up with some bright color strokes here and there then just take the sanding till the original primer. 

  • Clean and tape the surface of your SUV Car

Clean your car after sanding with mineral spirits. Make sure everything is cleaned and no oil is left behind that might disturb the painting process.

Use masking tape and old newspapers to cover the areas you don’t want to be painted on. 

Cover the windows and wheels as well; leaving only the area you want to paint a different color at.

  • Prime and paint

Prime the surface of the vehicle, enough so it gets smooth to touch. You can apply a double coat if needed and apply a thick layer to areas from where you removed rust.

Follow the manufacturer’s instructions on how to prepare the paint.

Hold the spray gun approximately 6 inches away from the surface and using a side-to-side movement spray the area to create a stroke of paint on the exposed vehicle surface.  

It might take 3 to 4 coats to cover the entire surface depending on which design you are going for. 

  • Let it set and uncover

Give the paint some hours to dry completely and apply a layer of lacquer over it. Once it has set, take the coverings off the SUV car.

Finish the look off by applying polish or wax to the surface of your SUV car to give a glossy finish.
